With few if any opportunities to secure new aircraft delivery slots for at least 6 years, the question has to be asked as to whether a cash rich airline may not consider becoming a lessor and buying an existing operating lessor with an attractive orderbook. The airline could then acquire the slots and redelivery positions and sell off the rest of the portfolio to other lessors in chunks.

Boeing has confirmed that the TUI Group, one of Europe's largest integrated-tourism companies, has ordered 11 787-8 Dreamliners and 50 Next-Generation 737s. The orders were previously recorded on Boeing's website as unidentified. The value of the orders is approximately US$4.7 billion at list prices. Two of the airplanes have already been delivered and identified.
