Nowadays, the aviation industry is subject to an active secondary market, be it for aircraft or engines, and this trend has been growing since the mid-80's. Many aircraft and engine are purchased second-hand in light of the current needs of the industry. For instance, today the number of transactions concerning used aircraft is about four times that of the number of transactions concerning new aircraft. There is a strong demand for used aircraft and engines. Manufacturers are keen to understand this process and gain a better understanding of their products' positioning on the secondary market. IBA addresses those needs in many respects. Firstly, IBA's team maintains databases that record all transactions for aircraft and engines and reflect used aircraft/engine trade-in values. Secondly, IBA uses its industry knowledge to determine the main value attributes of used aircraft and engine and the evolution of the related demand. IBA's ambition is to help manufacturers take advantage of the relationship between product market competition and trade in equipment and its likely evolution for future second-hand trade.
